Independent Learning Center

Description:
    This is a new program that FSJSS is offering this year.  The purpose of this program is to offer means of course delivery for students. This may be through independent study or Electronic Bussing (EBus), where they can work at their own pace. It also offers one on one tutoring for students with academic difficulties.

Alternate Education - Junior Grades
Teacher: Ms. K. Nelmes

Description:
    This program allows students the opportunity to earn credits for their Grades 9 & 10 academic Core courses (i.e., Math, Science, English, Socials) in an alternate environment.  They are also taught the social and behavioural skills necessary to succeed in the Grade 11 classroom.

Alternate Education / Enterprise Center - Senior Grades
Teacher: Mrs. N. Lance
Teaching Assistant: Mrs. M. Grill, Mrs. W. Marchand, Mr. W. Pleunis
Description:
    This program provides alternative routes to graduation.  We provide the opportunity, encouragement and support for all members of the High School to complete graduation requirements - especially those who have not found success or satisfaction in other programs.

Literacy & Numeracy Program - Grade 8
Teacher: Mrs. C. Miller & Mrs. J. MacDonald
Description:
    The Literacy Program helps students to improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills through daily practice.  Students are able to challenge department English exams in order to receive credits.  The Numeracy Program helps students improve their Math skills.  It focusses on Grade 8's, who require extra support to be successful students.  Successful completion of the program allows students to challenge the Math department's exams in order to receive credits.

Student Services Program & Resource Room - Jr. Program
Teacher: Mrs. M. Sillje
Teaching Assistant: Mrs. S. Buck
Description:
    This program offers independent modified Math and English programs based on the students' functional level.  It also provides academic support to students in their other Core and elective courses.





Homework Club
Supervisor: Mrs. T. Vogl & Ms. Y. Gilbert
Location: FSJSS Library
Time: Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 4:45 pm
Description:
    The library is opened late Mondays to Thursdays, so that students are able to work on their homework, complete research projects, or study for a test in the library.  Any student who signs-in five times to study or do homework in the library will earn $3 coupon redeemable at the school's Snack Shack or concession.

Breakfast Club
Supervisor: Mrs. T. Vogl
Location: Old Gym Concession
Time: Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 8:30 am
Description:
    FSJSS provides a set of nutritious breakfast for all students prior to the start of classes.  This program is currently being managed by volunteer TA's and students, particularly the Grades 10, 11 and 12 who wish to earn volunteer hours.
