Eugene Joseph Elementary School is located in Tache (Tachie Village), British Columbia. Tache Village is one of three villages that belong to Tl'azt'en Nation, a Dakelh (Carrier) First Nation in North-Central British Columbia, Canada. Tache is located along beautiful Stuart Lake.
Who
We have about 50 students divided into three classrooms. We have a Kindergarten Class taught by Maureen Thomas, a Grade 1, 2, and 3 class taught by Vicki Prinsen, and a Grade 4, 5, and 6 class taught by Bruce MacKay. The school also houses Sum-Yaz Daycare and a Headstart Program.
What
Students receive Dakelh language and cultural enrichment in addition to learning the prescribed provincial curriculum. This year, classrooms have also been focusing on experiential learning, multicultural understanding, and positive monthly initiatives such as Fixing our Mistakes. Students in all classes are learning to build empathy with the award-winning Roots of Empathy program.
Why
Mission Statement: Working together to crerate an environment that promotes heath and education so that dreams can come true.
Vision: Education is a continuing process that enables each Tl'azt'enne to reach her/his fullest potential. The roots of education are planted in families, cultural values, and traditions.
